A shooting range is a location specifically for practicing with or learning to use with firearms. Sometimes a shooting range can be referred to as a firing range. A shooting range is typically staffed by one or more safety personnel who ensure that proper gun safety rules are followed and that everyone at the range is safe and having an enjoyable time.
Both indoor and outdoor shooting ranges may have specifications regarding what firearms are allowed. Some shooting ranges are only for handguns, for example. Another shooting range may be only for rifles and may possibly be further specialized to be focused on skeet shooting or other gun sports. In countries with more firearms restrictions, a shooting range is typically only for use with Air soft guns.
An air rifle range is a type of outdoor shooting range that is intended for field target shooting. A small-bore rifle shooting range or miniature rifle range is geared toward the Olympic 50 meter rifle event as well as some cadet training programs. A full-bore rifle range is for extremely long-distance shooting and even scope shooting. Shotgun shooting ranges are typically for clay pigeon shooting and they often involve special equipment as well as more unique layouts.
